About the work

Who will the specialist work with? You will be working with Capability leads, Product Managers, Service Managers and Delivery Managers. -
What will the specialist do? As the Accessibility and Inclusivity specialist, you will provide expert advice and tailored support to the Capability branch and more broadly across the DTA, you will act as a subject matter expert in relation to accessibility and inclusion including education and awareness, technical solutions, feasibility of options, and advocacy for diversity and inclusivity. You will mentor and provide support to the teams within the branch in relation to accessibility and inclusivity, including providing subject matter expertise, mentoring, guidance and training.

Any additional relevant information? As the Accessibility and Inclusivity specialist, you will provide expert advice and tailored support to the Capability branch and more broadly across the DTA, you will act as a subject matter expert in relation to accessibility and inclusion including education and awareness, technical solutions, feasibility of options, and advocacy for diversity and inclusivity. You will mentor and provide support to the teams within the branch in relation to accessibility and inclusivity, including providing subject matter expertise, mentoring, guidance and training.
You will be required to work with the Design System team to ensure we maximise the accessibility of the design system and meet compliance needs.
In addition you will work with the Building Digital Capability team on the Learning Design Systems for accessibility.
This position can be worked out of Sydney or Canberra.

What are the working arrangements? Working onsite 5 days per week. -
Is security clearance required? Current Commonwealth Government baseline security clearance an advantage, otherwise the ability to obtain one.

Skills and experience

Essential skills and experience -
- High levels of knowledge and expertise in relation to all aspects of accessibility and inclusivity including: accessibility standards especially WCAG 2.0, WCAG 2.1, Silver and other W3C accessibility initiatives
- Proven experience working within diverse and inclusive environments and working across organisational boundaries and physical locations to deliver services and project outcomes that meets the user needs
- You will have knowledge of the Digital Service Standard, practice trends in user research and usability testing and standards
- Knowledge of and expertise in assistive technologies and social literacy, bureaucratic literacy, legal literacy and digital literacy.

Nice-to-have skills and experience -
Knowledge of the methodology used by the DTA, familiarity with the research and design community within DTA and the APS.
