About the work

Who will the specialist work with? You will be working in a team comprising of a delivery manager, product manager, user researcher, tech lead and service designer. -
What will the specialist do? The interaction designer will work in a multidisciplinary team to build world class government digital services. You will be helping government do the hard work to radically improve government information and services. This is for everyone: you will design to make services easy for everyone to be able to understand and use, with a focus on web standards, usability and accessibility. The interaction designer will have extensive experience working in Agile and, ideally, experience with the Commonwealth Digital Service Standard. -
Any additional relevant information? A central part of the team’s work is to analyse the service delivery and user experience of services across government in order to identify, score and prioritise opportunities. The role of the Interaction Designer in the team will be to lead the visual communication and delivery of artifacts that demonstrate the team’s findings, for example, user journey maps, theoretical concepts and models. Other duties include supporting and participating in user research and service design activities.
The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent information architecture, user interface design and digital prototyping skills.

What are the working arrangements? Working onsite full time, 5 days per week. -
Is security clearance required? Current Commonwealth Government baseline security clearance an advantage, otherwise the ability to obtain one.

Skills and experience

Essential skills and experience -
- interaction design, user centred experience design, task oriented design, especially form design and/or
- front end web development skills to enable creation of HTML prototypes and/or
- front end web development skills to enable creation of HTML prototypes and/or
- Work at the team, portfolio or programme level, to help organisations establish the right processes for designing and delivering services in an Agile way (including continuous integration and delivery).

Nice-to-have skills and experience -
Knowledge of the methodology used by the DTA, familiarity with the research and design community within DTA and the APS.
